    Hey Yoni,
I got great news. You said that the folder “con” couldn’t be created right? Well, It’s with great pleasure that I inform you that I have finally (after experimenting for a couple o’ day) created that particular folder.
Let me tell you how: You can’t create that folder normally because that folder is reserved for windows only, but I have found a glitch!
Go to any directory and right click and select “new folder” from the sub-menu. A new folder will come up and just enter “con” (without the quotes), and then press and hold the “alt” key and press 0160 on the number pad. Presto! you have created the “CON” file!
The trick is holding alt + 0160, creates a space after the word “CON” making it possible to name a folder as such.
Am I a genius or what!

Well compared to the other ppl who have checked out this page and said nothing , u r a genius.and u did the trick man, u have a folder name “con” on ur pc, that’s grate!! so, you used the space string code i.e “0160” to make it look like con that’s a nice one ,but u should now it not exactly “con” , it’s con with a space 😉 There is another way to make this folder, & lov to share it.!
= Goto start menu >> click on run >> type “cmd”
= once the command promote window is open type the follwing
    mkdir \\.\c:\con
    That’s it !!!!!! Go to your C drive and u will see….
Defintions of the above command line is:- the first word “mkdir” stands for “make directory”.And the tricky part is, this one “\\” this is used bypass the reservation rule in DOS (for de folder). And the “c:” is the drive where u want to put the folder name.MAN, this is a clean way to make exactly “con”!!!!!.
tip – “con” is not the only invalid folder name to create on windows platform, “COM1” AND OTHER 6 ENTERIES ARE INVALID.
    so if u r a genius , then what am i???? 😎

hey so u created the folder con….but what i ask is why is it reserved for windows.. what use does it have?

    Hey Drago,
Well, “CON” is a reserved name that dates back to the days of MS-DOS and is short for “CONsole”. The idea is that any program could write to the screen or read from the keyboard simply by opening and acting on a file by the name of CON. Try this sometime in a Windows Command Prompt:

    COPY readme.txt CON

For my example “readme.txt” is any convenient text file you have laying about. That will cause the file to be “copied to the console” – i.e., displayed on the screen.

Other possibly reserved filenames include things like COM1, COM2, and so on for your serial or modem ports, and LPT1, LPT2 and so on for printer ports.
    Well, that’s about it.
It’s all pretty technical and can get a little boring, but I hope you understood it.
    Holla!

    cool costa!!! ……..cool
guys talking about “0160” there is one more trick u can do.
    MAKING YOUR FOLDER INVISIBLE!!!
just repeat the step ALEX has shown us to make the space i.e type 0160 (in the new folder) HOLDING “Alt” , then u will have a folder ,with out a name.
Right click on it, choses properties , go to customize tab and click on change icon button and select one of the empty spaces in the box. then click ok
wala!!! u have an invisible folder.
